This is an era of booming technology.Golden age of wi-fi network. wherever we turn we could see wi-fi router. Schools, Hospitals, restaurants, shops, houses and even in roads we could see wi-fi. The wi-fi options in smart phones are the main reason for this revolutionary spreading of wi-fi networks. Nowadays free wi-fi facility is available. Online shopping made this bit popular. People now go for online shopping while having a coffee. But can we trust and rely on these free wi-fi facilities ? In a public network our personal details are not safe. Anyone can easily access our data and can used negatively to track and utilise us. Here are some tips that will be helpful in using wi-fi in a secured way.
1) If your computer have sharing option please disable it and make it in an off mode. If you keep your sharing option on while in a public network it is very easy to hack your computer. To disable this Go to Control Panel and select Network and Sharing option and put every sharing in off mode.
2) Setting up a VPN is a very safe method. In a Virtual Private Network all your data activities are almost secure. Free and paid VPNs are available.
3) Disable automatic Wi-fi connection in your mobile phone and computer. If you see wi-fi networks in your phone without you enabling it manually, it is sure that automatic wi-fi connection is enabled in your mobile or computer. This automatic connection is not a secure one which will lead to data loss and hacking. So it is advisable to turn off automatic connection in your computer and phone.
4)It is a good habit to confirm the name of the Network before you log in and use it. Sometimes hackers are prudent enough to make fake networks with similar name to trap you.So it is good to authenticate the name of the network.
5) Switch on the firewall protection. All most all operating systems provide firewall facility. It is a system to check inward and outward connections. Even though it will not provide full security , it is relevant in network connections.
6)Secure each of your accounts with proper and different passwords. It is good to add symbols in your password.If you have different password for different accounts it will help you to keep all other accounts safe even after any one of your account is hacked. If you gave same password for more than one account hacking and taking your data will be a cake walk for the hacker.
7)Always keep your antivirus updated. When you happen to get connected with an unsecured network or when virus and spyware try to intrude your system these antivirus can give you alert and you can keep your system protected.
